The volume was published as a catalogue for an exhibition held at Kelheim and Mainburg in 1991 and displays archaeological finds of the district of Kelheim from the Palaeolithic until Early Modern times. The Palaeolithic is represented by contributions on Marching and the abri Schulerloch near Essing, the Neolithic by the Linear pottery settlement at Niederumelsdorf, the Gallery Cave II at Kelheim, Early and Middle Neolithic finds from Saal, the flint mine at Lengfeld and a flint dagger from Hienheim. Into the Bronze Age can be dated a pit house with burial on the Frauenberg at Weltenburg, the hoard from Sittling and the barrow cemeteries at Saalhaupt and Schwaighausen. Of the Iron Age derive two Early Latène burials at Kelheim-Am Galget, pottery found at the breakthrough of the Danube and a gold stater coin from the Heidenstein at Altessing. fortlet at Weltenburg-Am Galget, finds from Eining and grave stones found at Biburg and Saal date to the Roman Period. For the Middle Ages stand a grave from Meilenhofen, settlement finds from Abensberg and the Wöhrd church at Kelheim. One find complex from Staubing can be dated to Early Modern times.
